Industry sources have revealed that Japanese chemical engineering and manufacturing company Nichia will be the sole supplier of 0.3t LED chips for the backlighting of the new 6.1″ LCD iPhone believed to be launching later this year, according to Digitimes.
The sources indicated that almost all of Nichia’s 0.3t LED chip capacity will be booked up by Apple during the second quarter of 2018. Trial production of the 6.1″ LCD iPhone is expected to commence this month, with small-volume production kicking off in August and mass production in September, the smartphone’s expected month of release.
Analysts have predicted that the 6.1″ LCD model will part of a trio of new iPhones released in 2018, joined by 5.9″ and 6.5″ OLED models.
