What They Say
TV Technology reports that in October, a trial of over-the-air 8K TV took place and used MIMO technology to deliver 113Mbps. The article said that new STBs would need to be used to support MIMO as existing ATSC 3.0 sets could not receive the signal. A vertical antenna could provide HD or 4K with a horizontal antenna providing the enhancement data to deliver 8K if a TV was developed that was MIMO compatible.
What We Think
It’s interesting that you can provide 8K this way, however, it doesn’t seem likely that broadcasters globally would move to this kind of technology very quickly. We’re still some way away from FullHD everywhere, let alone 4K or 8K! (BR)
