EIZO Corporation announced the release of the RadiForce RX270, a 21.3-inch 2 megapixel color medical monitor optimized for viewing both monochrome and color medical images. It is the successor model to the RadiForce RX250.
The RX270 is equipped with EIZO’s Hybrid Gamma PXL function which automatically distinguishes between monochrome and color images pixel by pixel for a hybrid display with an optimized grayscale that corresponds to DICOM Part 14 and faithful reproduction of color under Gamma 2.2. This makes the monitor ideal for displaying both color images such as endoscopy, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, as well as monochrome images such as CT, MRI, X-ray.
Monochrome medical images characteristically require a high level of brightness and contrast to distinguish fine details with clarity. The RX270 is equipped with an LED backlight with a high maximum brightness level of 1000 cd/m2 compared to 800 cd/m2 of the previous model. Furthermore, the RX270 has an improved contrast ratio of 1800:1, increased from 1400:1. This is higher than that of typical monochrome monitors of the same resolution, enabling the accurate display of deep blacks in monochrome images without washout.
Using the monitor at the recommended brightness level of 500 cd/m2 for day-to-day operations and selectively increasing to maximum brightness only when needed ensures the long life of the monitor. The RX270 is newly equipped with EIZO’s Instant Backlight Booster function which temporarily maxes the brightness to approximately 1000 cd/m2 at the push of a button. The brightness automatically returns to its original setting after a short period so the user does not need to manually adjust each time. This allows users to efficiently view medical images which require higher brightness to distinguish details while conserving the backlight during other tasks.
EIZO strives to be a leader in responsible business and manufacturing process to protect the environment for a more sustainable future. The RadiForce RX270 is made of approximately 16% recycled plastic. This mitigates the amount of plastic waste going into the environment, conserves resources, and promotes reuse of materials for preserving the natural ecosystems.
In addition, EIZO is moving away from using plastic and styrofoam in its packaging to reduce environmental impact. In June 2021, EIZO released the medical monitor RadiForce RX370, which was the first of its products to use molded pulp made from recycled cardboard and newspaper in its packaging instead of conventional recycled styrofoam or plastic. The new RX270 is also safely packed using molded pulp and cables are wrapped in paper instead of plastic bags. EIZO aims to continue this and other responsible manufacturing practices to maintain high product quality, while keeping the environment in mind.
