The Taipei Times reported that E Ink has confirmed to previous employees of the Hydis factory that it has no possibility of re-opening the factories and appealed for agreement with the trade unions that recently staged a protest in front of the headquarters of YFY Inc, the parent company of E Inc – in Taipei. The unions want the factories closed last year (E Ink Closes Hydis Factories). 300 of the 377 staff are said to have accepted severance pay of $94,334 per person.
Two of the three production lines have already been and removed from the factories. The plan is to remove the last one, which is said to be contaminated. “There is no possibility that E Ink would reopen the production lines and resume operations there,”, the Times said.
