DVD/Blu-ray Disc Player Ownership Drops in the US

The presence of DVD and Blu-ray disc players in American homes is declining, according to data from Nielsen’s latest Total Audience Report. The percentage of players in US households has dropped from 73% in March 2017 to 67% as of March 2018.

In fact, DVD and Blu-ray players were the only segment to see negative growth year-on-year. DVRs are present in 55% of US TV households, while internet-connected devices and smart TVs now sit at 37% and 38% of households respectively.
