DVB-T2 Tests Avoid Simulcasting

UltraHD transport at 100fps, using the DVB-T2 platform, has been tested in Spain. The trials were conducted by the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in the University’s labs.

A scalable coding system based on HEVC was used in the tests. The system was said to be backwards-compatible with less-powerful products, such as those that can only show UltraHD at 50fps – or even mobile devices.

Using the system, content can be transported using lower bandwidth and without simulcasting (duplicating a service to be transmitted in multiple formats).
