We mentioned the new Apple iPhone 13 cinematic mode (Apple’s Cinematic Mode Impresses) The reivew was impressed, so we were surprised to see a comment from DPReview, our favourite digital photography equipment site, that a reviewer said that the mode is “like having a fork dragged across my eyeballs”. However, watching the review in total showed that there was a work around to the problem (which was related to incongruity in the way that the blurring of the background was applied). The way to avoid it was to judge the depth of field after capture. The review also points out that the mode is limited to FullHD 30fps and not available in other modes, such as 4K
What We Think
The review is worth a look if you are interested in using the phone for video. I bought an expensive mirrorless camera to get good cinematic video and the Apple smartphones are getting much closer! (BR)
