DJI Has an 8K Drone with LiDAR

What They Say

DJI, better known for its drones, has released a cinema 8K camera (6K version also available) that can record at 60fps and with RAW output at 3.95Gbs and up to 75Hz maximum in 8K. it can support D-Log, Rec. 709 and HLG capture and uses Apple ProRes RAW, Apple ProRes 422 or H.264 (4:20:0 10 bit). It is available with a proprietary 4D Video Transmitter for wireless operation up to 6000m.

The camera has a fitted LiDAR sensor for focusing and can operate through 60° horizontally and over 45° vertically up to 3m and over 7° vertically up to 10m.

The camera includes a 5.5″ FullHD viewfinder with 1000 cd/m². There is also a remote monitor of 7″ with 1920 x 1200 and 1500cd/m² which can be used to override the camera’s focus so that an assistant can manage it.

What We Think

Interesting – LiDAR is obviously the technology of the day. Ken’s DD (later today – What Does the AiRRobo Vaccum Cleaner Have that Your Tesla Doesn’t?) is also about that technology.

This camera is not specifically targeted at drone use as far as I can see. (BR)
