Display Makers Plan Automotive Entrance

In an article about growth in automotive display production, Reuters says that in-car display volumes are expected to triple between 2013 and 2018. The data comes from IHS, which forecasts a volume of 174 million units and $8.3 billion in revenue in the next three years.

Cars will carry as many as nine displays in the future. Some of these, LG Display representatives told Reuters, could be transparent window displays and screens replacing traditional mirrors. VP James Shin said that LGD intends to become the world’s largest producer of automotive displays.

LG’s domestic rival Samsung Display, meanwhile, is testing its own OLED technology with BMW and Continental, say Reuters’ sources.
