Disney Takes Stake in Streaming Company

The Walt Disney company has taken a 33% stake in BAMTech, a video streaming company formed by Major League Baseball. The acquisition cost $2 billion, which will be paid in two installments: one now and one in January 2017. Disney has the option to secure majority ownership in the coming years.

BAMTech specialises in direct-to-consumer streaming, and has almost 7.5 million paid subscribers to its clients’ OTT products. Disney says that its investment will provide capital to speed the growth of its proprietary video delivery platform.
