A new report from Digitimes Research has indicated that the Japanese AR/VR market is growing at a slower rate than other territories. With about 300,000 units sold in 2017, analysts predict that the market will grow at a CAGR of 33.5% between 2018 and 2022, lower than that of Europe and the US.
The gaming sector is still driving the majority of AR/VR usage in Japan, while the technology’s adoption for other applications such as manufacturing, medical and retail is still relatively low. Digitimes says, “Factors including pricing and comfortability will be crucial for Japan-based enterprises to decide whether to adopt AR/VR applications”.
