South Africa Dominates African Pay-TV

Sub-Saharan African pay-TV revenues will climb from $3.54 billion last year to $6.22 billion in 2020, says Digital TV Research (DTVR). Revenues will be $4.12 billion, up from $1.73 billion, excluding South Africa. Satellite TV is the most common reception method, with a 92% market share last year. Of 12.92 million pay-TV subscribers, 9.65 million took satellite and 2.81 million took DTT. Total pay-TV customers will reach 27.95 million by 2020, with 16.21 million taking satellite and 9.44 million DTT.
