Deutsche Telekom, the German telco, is to launch an entry-level IPTV package next month, which will provide around 100 TV channels, 22 of which will be HD.
To get the package, called StartTV, a broadband connection will be required plus an IPTV receiver, both of which will be available from Telekom. The IPTV receiver can be rented for €2.95 per month or purchased for €79.99, and the entry-level IPTV package will be €2 per month. StartTV comes with an EPG plus a search function.
There is also available for an additional fee, an HD Start package with 24 additional HD channels plus Entertain TV mobil, for mobile TV on a smartphone or tablet.
Telekom has an existing, more comprehensive IPTV platform, called Entertain TV.
Michael Hagspihl, managing director of Telekom’s consumer business, announced that StartTV will be further expanded with Telekom’s VOD portal, Videoload, and pay-TV being added to StartTV later this year. A special offer is available for any subscribers signing up before the end of August, with Telekom providing the new IPTV service and the rental receiver for free for one year.
