Dell transforms its XPS 13 2-in-1into a tablet

What They Say

Thee Verge reported a few days ago that Dell is revising the design for its XPS 13 2-in-1 laptop to change it to, effectively, a tablet with a keyboard, more like the Apple iPad Pro with the Magic keyboard. The magnetic XPS Folio will support three angles: 100°, 112.5°, and 125° and the tablet also supports a magnetic stylus that charges when on the device (sound familiar?).

The display is a 13″ 3:2 2880 x 1920 panel with 500 cd/m² and support for DisplayHDR 400. There’s a 1080p webcam with Windows Hello support and an 11 megapixel camera on the back. The unit is available with a 5G option that has a back covered with Gorilla Glass 7 to “optimise connectivity and eliminate signal interference”. There are dual Thunderbolt 4 connections with DisplayPort and PD.

The release date and pricing is tbd. There is a video here.

What We Think

Apple has focused on three different OS systems for smartphones, tablets and PCs (although it has been clearly adding more PC-like functions to the iPad Pro. Microsoft has focused on Windows across all devices (but failed in smartphones). If Dell does well with this tablet/convertible, it might be an indicator that it has found a chink in Apple’s armour.
