Dell Readies First Gaming and Curved Displays

Dell has produced a couple of ‘firsts’, with two new 27″ LCD monitors. Just before gaming show PAX Prime, the company announced its first-ever monitor especially for gamers, with the S2716DG. At the same time, the company showed off its first curved display, which will be released in September: the SE2716H.

Unlike the majority of monitor makers, who are opting to use AMD’s Freesync technology, Dell has gone for Nvidia’s G-Sync (arguably superior, but it has a license fee and requires the monitor scaler to be replaced; Freesync, as the name implies, is free to use – TA) on its gaming display. Both Freesync and G-Sync are anti-tearing technologies, which provide stutter-free gameplay.

As well as G-Sync, the S2716DG features 1ms response time and 144Hz refresh rate. Resolution is 2560 x 1440, and tilt, swivel, pivot and height-adjustability are built in to the stand. Additionally, the monitor features DisplayPort, HDMI, USB 3.0 (x4), USB-B and audio jacks.

Dell’s new curved monitor has a thin bezel, 9W speakers and ‘amazing colour contrast’. The company has not shared any more information about the SE2716H at this time.

Dell will launch the SE2716H in the USA on the 15th September, for $400. The S2716DG will be launched on 20th October, for $800.
