Dell Pushes L/P Projector Prices Down

Dell had a strong presence with support from Intel and had a number of displays on show. There was a reasonably new touch display with 86″ diagonal, the C8618QT, which was shown at Infocomm and then released in September.

At the same time, the company released the UST S518WL that was shown at Infocomm (although we were told at the time that it was a 1920 x 1200 unit). The resolution is 1280 x 800 with 3200 Ansi lumens and using a DarkChip 3 DLP. Static contrast is 1800:1 and the unit has a laser phosphor light source. List pricing is £1200 ($1700) but at the time we were writing this report, the unit was on Dell’s website at less than £1000 ($1,400). Dell sells an optimised bracket and a Da-Lite projection screen that is optimised for the unit.

Analyst Comment

The S518WL is one of the products that we saw at the show that uses a laser phosphor light source but sells at a very competitive price. Resolution is not high, but the price is very good.
