DEG: US Shows Strong UHD Demand

The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) has said that US consumer spending was ‘stable’ in Q1’16, at $4.6 billion. UltraHD adoption is rising quickly: more than 1.5 million UHD TVs were sold in the quarter (up 210%), and UltraHD discs outsold conventional Blu-ray discs by a factor of two (80,000 units).

The DEG also said that VoD platforms continued to grow, up 7% in the quarter. SVoD enjoyed a 19% YoY rise. Data shows that HD TV penetration is now at 95% of all US homes, or 104 million households.
