What They Say
Daktronics put out a press release that highlighted that it is able to supply ‘light mitigation’ technology that can help where light spilling from large LEDs under the name LightDirect. The technology uses special louvres to block the light emission in unwanted directions.
Daktronics said that it also offers site-specific light emissions analyses to alleviate concerns about illumination effects. A light analysis depicts what a light meter would measure at all angles and distances if the display was installed at a specific location. Daktronics offers it as a complimentary service with a billboard purchase.
The system also uses a multi-directional light sensor to automatically adjust brightness according to the amount of ambient light, ensuring the display is never too bright or dim for the lighting conditions. Over the course of the day, the sign’s brightness can range anywhere from 100% during the sunniest point of the day to 3% during the darkest point of the night.
What We Think
Hat tip to Dave Haynes of sixteen-nine.net for spotting this one. Using louvres is a very old idea in LED displays with the ‘traditional’ usage blocking sunlight from getting into LED displays, whereas this approach turns this around and blocks the light coming out. (BR)
