Dominant UK electronics retailer, Currys PC World, has started to offer a same day delivery service for ‘small items’ with a two hour timeslot for deliveries and for orders placed before 4.00pm. It is available seven days per week. Deliveries can be from 2.00pm to as late as 10.00pm and the cost to buyers will be £9.95 ($13.50). The service was tested around Black Friday and 32″ TVs and cordless vacuum cleaners were the most popular products, with peak deliveries between 6.00pm and 8.00pm. The service is for stores within 10 miles of the delivery address.
TVs up to 40″ are included in the service, but not larger sets or larger white goods.
The service has been established with On The Dot.com which is working both with partner retailers and with those that offer click and collect services to offer deliveries with a one hour window from retailers in a five mile radius. The service allows tracking, similar to Uber and Lyft.
