CPT Requires Unpaid Leave to Avoid Layoffs

CPT

‘To overcome [the] economic recession and improve financial performance’, Chungwha Picture Tubes has asked its employees to take unpaid leave.

From now until the end of 2016, an unspecified number of workers will be required to take one or more unpaid days off of work every week. Domestic sources estimate that as many as 3,000 employees will take one or two days each week, although these figures were not confirmed by CPT.

CPT said that the move was being taken to avoid layoffs at a time when the demand for flat screens is weak. It will be reviewed every month.

Pan Hung-lin, head of Taoyuan City’s (where CPT is based) Labour Department, said that moves such as this usually only cover a three-month period, not 14 months. He is reported to have said that the Labour Department will need to acquire details of the company’s plans.
