Corning Incorporated announced that Samsung Display Corporation (SDC) has selected Corning® Astra™ Glass for SDC’s new line of Quantum Dot (QD) display panels, which are key to enabling large-size TVs and monitors that feature vivid, intense colors.
QD technology offers advanced benefits to the viewing experience, providing a wider viewing angle, better response time, enhanced color performance, and increased efficiency – all within a thin form factor – when compared with other display technologies.
SDC’s QD display panels are featured in several high-end sets that will be commercially available this year.
“Astra Glass brings performance that is critical to crafting a powerful panel and delivering immersive, life-like displays,” said Han Yim, business director, High Performance Displays and Display Innovations, Corning. “QD displays are poised to raise the world’s expectations of picture quality, and Astra Glass is vital to advancing emerging display technologies.”
Astra Glass provides the optimal blend of attributes critical for the intricate and high-temperature QD manufacturing process, which requires two pieces of high-quality display glass. Corning’s current Display glass portfolio offers high-performance, exceptionally pure, and thin substrates optimized for advanced and emerging display technologies.
