Cord-Shaving Outweighs Cord-Cutting

Research by Nielsen suggests that cord-cutting concerns are not as well-founded as expected. Most consumers are likely to cut back on, but not cancel, their pay-TV services, and complement them with streaming services like Netflix. Globally, 32% of respondents said that they planned to cut the cord – but only a ‘tiny fraction’ actually go through with it. 70% of people still take a traditional TV service, and more than a quarter have a VoD subscription. These figures differed in some markets. For instance, about 35% of respondents in North America and APAC subscribed to VoD services, but 11% in Europe.
