In a new press release, Continental announced a display concept for the new Mercedes E-Class. As a matter of fact the concept does not only include one, but two widescreen displays that seamlessly form the dashboard and infotainment center. Instead of two separated displays, this new concept merges the new displays into one massive display dashboard.
The displays have a resolution of 1920 x 720 pixels with a diagonal of 12.3″ (31.2cm) each. This means that the new Mercedes E-Class will have almost two feet (60cm) of high resolution display dominating the dashboard. Continental did not release what type the new displays are and if they are touch capable or not. On the other hand the image does indicate that the displays are still flat and not curved, which hint at the use of LCDs. Since Mercedes also includes a touch input device in the center console, the display themselves maybe not touch enabled after all. -NH

Having the display behind the steering wheel would not necessarily make the display more useful, but touch on the centre part might. (BR)
