Computer Virus Delays Shipments at Several TSMC Facilities

Production equipment across several Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) fabs was hit by a computer virus late last week, the company has revealed, as reported by Digitimes. The company has denied rumours that a deliberate hacking attempt has taken place but estimates that its third-quarter revenues could be affected by as much as 3%.

TSMC is now working closely with its customers to deal with the fallout of the incident. The company says any delays to shipments caused by the virus during the third quarter of 2018 should be resolved in the fourth. TSMC’s customers include Apple, Nvidia and Qualcomm.
