Compal Notebook’s Three Screens Connect Wirelessly

What They Say

Lilyputing.com reported on a three display notebook concept design, the Airttach, from Compal that was mentioned as a submitted product for the IF Design Award 2021. The concept is noted as being available in 2021 and allows two additional displays to be clipped onto a notebook or to be used separately in portrait mode as separate readers. The connections between the displays would be wireless.

What We Think

The illustrations on the design award site suggest that the main or subsidiary displays would have little or no side bezels to allow the connection. That might be a challenge in practical terms. As we have seen, this kind of display with almost exposed edges can be very fragile – not what you would want in a portable notebook display. It’s also not clear how the side displays would attach, although careful inspection of the images shows small notches at the top and bottom of the main screen where hooks could be engaged to clip the side displays on. I would also worry about the amount of stress on the hinges – often a cause of failure in notebooks over the years.
