The world’s cinemas are now almost totally digital, according to a report from IHS Technology, as reported by Advanced Television. The only exceptions are a few cinemas in India and some 35mm projection specialists. 87,000 cinemas are able to show 3D content, and China has 40,000 of these. Although there are many screen format variations, there are over 2,500 premium large format screens. IHS also notes that a few innovations are also emerging – HDR, 4D, immersive motion seating and virtual reality.
