TV Still the Most Frequently Owned Product

Connectivity is the driving trend of our time, according to the Consumer Technology Association’s recent study. 80% of US homes now have a smartphone, up 6% YoY, raising the number of smartphones owned by 27 million. But the TV remains the most popular device with 96% of homes owning at least one. In addition, connected devices saw an increase, including smart TVs and wearables. DVD and Blu-ray players fell from second to third most owned product, and these are showing a marked decline (14% in units, 7% by household) to 142 million this year. Wired headphones and earbuds were fourth, with notebooks, laptops and netbooks slipping to fifth.

Looking at emerging technology, 4K UltraHD TV is seeing the highest growth and 16% of US households now own one, up 9% year on year and 11% of U.S. households plan to purchase a 4K UHD TV in the coming year.
