China Plans to Export 25 Million VR Headsets by 2026

 What They Say

Reuters reports that China has an action plan intended to allow shipments of 25 million HMDs by 2026 with a value of $48 billion under the country’s 14th five year plan. The HMDs include AR and VR devices.

The report is not clear whether this is an annual figure or a cumulative total but assumes that the total value of the industry will be higher than the $48 billion and that as many as “100 core companies and … 10 public service platforms” may be needed by 2026.

What We Think

Reuters reported IDC as saying that just 500K HMDs shipped from China in the first half of 2022. Companies such as Goertek (which will make the PS VR2 among other devices) must be rubbing their hands in glee at the thought of the continued support they may get over the next few years. (BR)
