Canatu Film Used in 3D-Shaped Touch Sensor

With Schuster Group and Display Solutions AG, Canatu has developed a 3D-encapsulated touch sensor, for the automotive industry. It is being used to build a button-free, 3D-shaped multitouch display for in-car use.

A prototype of the display supported five-point touch, realised using Canatu’s Carbon Nanobud (CNB) in-mold film, which is stretchable (to 120%) and has a bending radius of 1mm. The touch sensor was created using an existing mass-manufacturing tool, and an ‘industry standard’ process.

Analyst Comment

Touch surfaces are likely to be built into car surfaces that are not displays, although these are likely to be used in conjunction with other modalities to avoid inadvertent operation. (BR)
