Broadcom Does a Deal with the FTC

What They Say

Broadcom, which had already settled a dispute with the European Commission (Commission accepts Broadcom commitments for set-top chips), has now reached a similar deal with the US FTC. The company denied that it had committed any offence.

“While we disagree that our actions violated the law and disagree with the FTC’s characterizations of our business, we look forward to putting this matter behind us. The FTC investigation into our other businesses has been closed without action.”

What We Think

As I mentioned last time this came up, I came close to having to deal with an EU competition investigation once. It’s a sobering issue when you realise how much power the authorities have. (BR)
