Some of us were having a break the last week, but the wheels of industry kept turning without us, especially in China. BOE is investing 63 billion yuan ($8.9 billion) in an 8th generation OLED production line (B16) and visited LG Display and Dell in South Korea over the holidays, likely to discuss evaporation equipment and potentially acquiring LG Display’s Guangzhou LCD factory. BOE may also convert its B20 6th gen LTPS LCD line to produce OLEDs or MicroLEDs.
Tianma has begun moving equipment into its 1.1 billion yuan ($155 million) MicroLED production line in Xiamen, which is expected to have small-scale production by 2025. Separately, Tianma has begun an 8 billion yuan ($1.1 billion) production line in Wuhu targeting automotie, IT, and industrial displays, with a capacity for 64 million display modules.
Finally, Visionox has begun an 11 billion yuan ($1.5 billion) flexible AMOLED module production line in Hefei targeting wearables, mobile devices, IT, and automotive. The line will have 26 million units of annual capacity when fully ramped.
