What They Say
The Elec said that BOE is aiming to make LTPO OLEDs for the iPhone 15 Pro series in 2023 that it plans to make in its B12 fab in Chongqing, China. So far, the firm has only supplied limited numbers to Apple. Samsung is reported to be the sole supplier of the 6.06″ OLED in the iPhone 14 Pro, expected later in the year. Samsung and LG Display are said to be the suppliers of the 6.68″ OLED with a hole for the camera to be used in the iPhone Pro series.
The blog reports that this year, BOE has supplied 15 to 16 million panels to Apple in 2021 with a boost to 40 to 50 million this year. The B11 fab has been supplying LTPS so far.
The third phase of the B12 line is expected to apply tandem OLED structures, but equipment has not yet been ordered although it is expected to come into production in the second half of the year and that B12 will have a capacity of 48K G6 substrates when complete.
What We Think
At its event in December, DSCC said that BOE will move its B12 Phase 1 and 2 fabs to LTPO mass production in the first half of 2024 (Phase 1 Jan, Phase 2 July). That would give the firm a big capacity in LTPO and allow more competition with SDC and LGD. DSCC expects BOE to have 15K capacity for LTPO by the end of 2023 in B12 but said at the event that it would have 15K of LTPO capacity this year. (BR)
