Coretronic shipped 8.2 million backlight units (BLUs) in October, 9% down on September but helping to bring shipments so far this year to 77.7 million units, 25% higher year on year. By application, Coretronic shipped 2.6 million BLUs for notebooks, 2.5 million for tablet use, 2.1 million which were for use in monitors, and 580,000 for TVs.
The company also shipped 107,000 DLP projectors last month, down 5% sequentially, and 987,000 projectors for the January to October period, an increase of 19% year on year.
October sales fell 3.8% month on month to NT$6.7 billion ($219 million), though this was 2.5% higher than October 2013 and brought sales for the year to date to NT$68.6 billion ($2.2 billion), an improvement of 16.5% from the corresponding period of 2013.
Meanwhile Radiant Opto-Electronics shipped a total of 12.2 million BLUs, 14.3% higher MoM, of which 11.7 million were for notebook use, 460,000 were for monitors and TV use BLUs amounted to 37,000 units. Radiant Opto’s sales for October were NT$5.2 billion ($167 million) and so far this year, the company has shipped 90.4 million BLUs.
