Taiwan’s two main BLU manufacturers, Coretronic and Radiant-Optoelectronics both reported declines in sales and shipments in February.
Coretronic shipped 5.3 million BLU units, 24% down from January and said that it expects overall first quarter BLU shipments to drop 15% from Q4. LCD TV BLUs are forecast to grow over 10%, while for LCD monitor use, shipments will be down 20%, notebook-use BLUs will remain flat and BLUs for tablet use will fall 30%. Coretronic’s sales for February fell 21.6% sequentially and 24.8% year on year to NT$4.5 billion ($142 million), bringing sales so far this year to NT$10.2 billion ($323 million), down 19.6% year on year.
Radiant-Opto reported sales of NT$2.6 billion ($84 million) for February, representing a 28.3% sequential and 22.3% YoY decline. Sales for January and February together were down 29.2% at NT$6.3 billion ($199.5 million).
