Taiwan Chip Companies See February Sales Fall

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing(TSMC) recorded its lowest monthly sales since June 2014 in February, at NT$62.2 billion ($2 billion). This was 28.1% lower than January 2015 but 33.8% higher than February 2014. For the first two months of the year, TSMC’s increased 52.4% to NT$149.7 billion ($4.7 billion). The company has forecast sales in Q1 of NT$221 – 224 billion ($6.9 – 7 billion).

Mediatek‘s sales fell 44.6% month on month and 38.5% year on year to NT$9.7 billion ($307 million), bringing sales so far this year to NT$27.1 billion ($), 5.4% lower than the first two months of 2014. Mediatek has predicted revenue for the first quarter between NT$45.5 – 49.9 billion ($), which would be 10-18% lower than Q4.

United Microelectronics (UMC) reported only a 6.4% fall in sales in February to NT$12 billion ($379.9 million), which was 16.6% higher than a year earlier. So far this year UMC’s sales totaled NT$24.9 billion ($788.3 million).

Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) saw sales drop 18.7% from January to NT$19 billion ($601 million), though this was 16.8% higher YoY. The company’s total sales so far this year were 21.5% higher at NT$42.3 billion ($1.3 billion).
