MDM Vol 24 #41 Round-up

BLU, which claims to be the largest supplier of unlocked smartphones in the US, has done a deal with Sprint and launched the 5.2″ HD (1280 x 720) IPS smartphone. The IPS LCD display features curved Gorilla glass and the processor is a MediaTek MT6570 with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage (upgradeable). The rear camera is a 13mp unit and the front one has a 5mp device. Pricing is an aggressive $129 initially, with $179 being the price after launch. It’s available free to customers switching to Sprint.

Asus has released the ZenFone 4 family in North America: the ZenFone 4 Pro, ZenFone 4, and ZenFone 4 Max. The Pro (OLED 500 cd/m²) and 4 (LCD 600 cd/m²) have 1920 x 1080 displays in 5.5″, while the 4 Max is an HD unit with 720 x 1280 and 5.2″ diagonal and are IPS LCDs. The Pro and 4 use Snapdragon 835 and 630, respectively, and the Max is available in two versions with the 430 (3GB/32GB) and the 425 (2GB/16GB).

The Pro has a 2X optical zoom and the Pro and 4 have 12MP main rear cameras, while the 4 has 13MP units. There are a range of different secondary cameras and the front cameras are all 8MP devices, although there are detail differences.

The Pro and 4 have 3600mAh and 3300mAh batteries, respectively, while the 4 Max has either 5,000 mAh or 4100mAh.

The Pro is selling for $599, the 4 for $299 and the Max is $199 or $169.
