BenQ Releases New 4K Monitor with sRGB Color Space

The BL2711U 27” monitor from BenQ is a UHD-4K monitor that features an IPS-type wide-viewing angle panel, apparently sourced from AUO. It is aimed at CAD/CAM designers (includes SolidWorks certification – a special brightness setting that only illuminates darker areas of the screen) and those in the print industry as it features a defined color gamut – sRGB.

The sRGB color gamut is used primarily for content bound for the monitors, printers and the internet and features the same color primaries as the HDTV standard, rec 709, but it has a different gamma curve (a linear gamma 1.0 near black and a non-linear gamma 2.4 shape elsewhere).

BenQ joins a growing list of 4K-UHD monitors from the likes of Asus, HP, Dell, Acer, Samsung, LG, Philips and others.

The BenQ BL2711U supports refresh of the UHD content at 60 frames per second, allowing content to be delivered at this rate via DisplayPort 1.2 (up to 3840 x 2160, 10 bit, 4:4:4, 60 fps) or HDMI 2.0 ports (up to 3840×2160, 8-bit, 4:4:4, 60 fps or 4:2:0 at 10-bit). For lower frame rates, you can also use Dual Link-DVI or HDMI 1.4 inputs. There are also four USB 3.0 ports and 2x 3W stereo speakers built in to the screen.

Other specs are very nice too, such as the 4ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m² brightness, 178/178 viewing angles (contrast ratio of 10:1), 1.07 billion colour depth (10-bit) and flicker free operation. BenQ’s Low Blue Light mode, and PiP (Picture in Picture) and PbP (Picture by Picture) functionality is also included. The stand offers tilt, height, swivel and rotate adjustments and the screen is VESA mountable if required.
