What They Say
Protocol published its most popular articles for 2020 and included one that dug into the falure of Daqri, the developer of helmets with augmented reality integrated. In February, the blog spoke to several ex-staff about the company and its rise and fall. The company started by aiming at consumers, then jumped to B2B applications, but was unable to develop products that big companies wanted to buy.
What We Think
We reported that Daqri’s ip was sold to Snap but I reported a number of times about the firm and its products. They seemed pretty well put together, but the article said that much of what was presented was carefully constructed spin and that it really didn’t managed to do what corporates wanted. If you wonder why sometimes I am a bit sceptical about demoes and claims, this is the reason. The firm put on a very professional front and that can be misleading. It isn’t often that I have been fooled over the years, and I have spotted a couple of scams, but I have to own up to this one! (BR)
