What They Say
At the ECR in Vienna, Barco showed a new grey scale monitor, the Nio Gray 5.8MP (MDNG-6221) which is a 21.3″ 2100 x 2800 (3:4) 10 bit IPS display with 1,300 cd/m² maximum luminance (calibrated max 1,000 cd/m² and default 600 cd/m²). Contrast is 1400:1 and there are two dual link DVI inputs as well as dual DisplayPort connections. There are a number of special features including ULT uniformity correction and an ambient light sensor. There are lominiance boosts with I-Luminate and SpotView and the firm said that the white tint can be modified.
What We Think
Barco has two colour modes, called ClearBase and BlueBase as well as the LCD native mode. ClearBase is less blue. I’m surprised we haven’t reported on this feature before, as it has been around for some years, but then again, new monochrome monitors don’t come along very often!
I was disappointed not to get to the show this year. I was due to go in 2020, but the show was one of the first to be cancelled as a live event by Covid. (BR)
