Rimowa is a high end supplier of baggage that is based in Germany. Like BagTag, it wants tags to be electronic, but wants travellers to buy the firm’s baggage with the displays already fitted. Like BagTag, the label can be updated with bluetooth from a phone, but Rimowa already has support from the Lufthansa app for the use of the tags.
One of the potential issues with electronic tags is battery lifetime. It should be very long, as power is only used during updating, but Rimowa said that its tags will send a message using Bluetooth when battery capacity has dropped to 20%.
