Axis Communications has announced enhancements to its Zipstream compression technology to support the increased data streaming and storage demands of 360° panoramic cameras and 4K resolution. Zipstream is intended to ensure that important forensic details of video footage are maintained, while reducing bandwidth and storage requirements by an average of 50% or more.
Axis also announced that the Axis M3047-P and M3048-P network cameras now offer the enhanced Zipstream technology to deliver 360° coverage. The new cameras are flat without any dome over the lens, which makes them more discreet and eliminates the risk of reflections in the dome. Smoke-detector and vandal-resistant casings, as well as a black casing are available for both cameras. The cameras support camera-side as well as client-side de-warping.
The M3047-P has a 6-megapixel sensor, and the M3048-P, a 12-megapixel sensor, and both deliver full frame rate video. Both cameras are planned to be available through Axis’ standard distribution channels this month, at the suggested retail price of $469 and $669 respectively.
