Auto Displays Featured in SID/DSCC Business Conference

The 2022 SID/DSCC Business Conference at DisplayWeek, sponsored by Applied Materials, Corning, GE and Amorphyx will feature over 35 different talks on all aspects of the display industry. One of five application-oriented sessions of the conference will address the market for automotive displays, one of the most demanding and potentially profitable segments of the flat panel display industry.

The session entitled “Automotive Display Market and Technology Outlook” will feature presentations from two industry analysts from leading research firms, researchers from the largest automotive OEM in the US and one of the world’s largest Tier 1 suppliers, and perhaps the best-known university researcher in the automotive display ecosystem.

“Automotive displays offer unique and exciting technology challenges and promising market opportunities,” said Bob O’Brien, Co-Founder, Principal Analyst and CFO, DSCC, “and our session at the SID DSCC Business Conference will cover both. Whether they represent the auto industry, the display industry or both, attendees will gain valuable insights into this valuable market segment in this virtual session.”

The presenters are shown below, and their bios are on our website and can be reached from

Automotive Display Market and Technology Outlook Presenters

A leader of the SID program subcommittee for Automotive/Vehicular Displays and a board member of the German Flat Panel Display Forum (DFF), Dr. Karlheinz Blankenbach, will share his evaluation of competing technologies for automotive displays. Some premium OEMs ship cars today with OLED displays while LCDs are still the automotive workhorse. Challenges and solutions for LCDs and OLEDs will be discussed and looking into the future, MicroLEDs have the potential to outperform LCDs and OLEDs.

Aaron Dale, Sr. Research Analyst – UI/UX, Automotive Supply Chain & Technology for IHS Markit is responsible for tracking automotive technology trends with a focus on user interface and user experience applications. The accelerated transformation of the automotive industry continues in 2022. Aaron will examine the pace of the ongoing cockpit digitalization, the emergence of new display technologies and form factors while also taking a look at the differing automaker approaches and strategy.

Roger Lanctot, Director of Automotive Connected Mobility at Strategy Analytics draws more than 30 years’ experience in the technology industry as an analyst, journalist and consultant. Roger will consider the customer acceptance of and satisfaction with touch screens along with the notable evolution toward large in-vehicle displays. Key issues will be the consideration of consumer behavior and the necessary supporting in-vehicle electronics architecture as automotive applications evolve toward more contextual and immersive experiences including augmented reality.

Dr. Thomas Seder, Technical Fellow and Chief Technologist-HMI and Dr. Kai-Han Chang, Senior Researcher at GM Research and Development, will cover holography in future automotive displays. The two will focus on head-up displays (HUDs), provide an overview of AR HUD use cases, the requirements to create AR experience, and review the enabling technology. Specifically, they will review and describe the key elements of phase holography and the use of this powerful technology to achieve a compact optical system design.

Edouard Da Silva, Director of HMI & Display Global Product Line at Faurecia will discuss the new era of perceptual and immersive user experience (UX) in automotive. With the fast shift of automotive cockpits towards digital UX, auto makers must deal with a new kind of challenge. Edouard will share some of the key challenges such as visibility and energy and the way Faurecia is solving these challenges.
