What They Say
Broadcast equipment maker Ateme said that it has integrated Dolby Vision and Atmos technologies into its Titan Live system for live encoding of broadcast signals. It will also support Dolby AC-4 and Dolby Audio in formats such as Dolby Digital Plus.
What We Think
Initially, Dolby Vision was very targeted at pre-rendered content where control of the key metadata was simpler. However, broadcasters, after negative experiences of trying to deal with audio metadata, wanted simpler solutions without metadata and HLG was developed, intended mainly for live production. Dolby reacted by saying that it could support live transmission, but clearly, the technology has to be available in the kind of equipment supplied by Ateme. This announcement is good news for Dolby.
