ATEME Provides VR Near-Live Coverage for Super Bowl

Ateme has announced that its video compression technology was used for the VR near-live coverage in UHD of the American football Super Bowl.

On offer was a virtual and interactive lounge that presented highlights from the game in near real-time via the Fox Sports VR app for iOS and Android devices. This was intended to give each viewer equipped with a VR handset experience of the game in the same way as sitting in a VIP lounge in the stadium.

For this event, six UHD cameras placed in strategic location were used to capture the action. Each camera streams using Titan, Ateme’s software-based encoder-transcoder. Claimed to support ‘any’ codec, and any resolution up to UHD, Titan delivers high video quality at minimum bitrates, which reduces the high bandwidth necessary to provide the service to the consumer’s home.
