Asustek Computer said it expects its tablet business to break even this year, after reporting losses for its tablet operations in 2014 and the first half of this year. The company has taken measures to adjust its supply chain and reduce the number of models produced to bring down total operating costs.
Asustek’s tablet shipments were 22.3% lower year on year in 2014, at 9.4 million units, while in the first half of this year, the company has shipped only 2.7 million tablets. In the second half of 2015, shipments are estimated to be around 4.3 million. The best regions for Asustek to date have been Russia, Italy, Indonesia and Thailand, while in the US, the company has partnered with Best Buy and has talked about co-operation with AT&T.
