Asus Reveals More Information on New Phones, Convertibles and Projector

Asus was highlighting the ZenFone 2 which was previewed at CES. The display is a 5.5″ IPS unit with FullHD resolution (a 1280 x 720 lower cost option is available), 400 cd/m² of brightness and Gorilla Glass 3. The firm was highlighting the photo features of the phone, especially the low brightness and autoHDR mode. There’s a 13 megapixel camera and a 5 megapixel version on the front.

We also looked at the T300 Chi and T100 Chi which we saw in Las Vegas. This was the first time that this reporter had seen the T100 Transformer and I found that it looks like a very good compromise between tablet and convertible. Often when used as a tablet, the weight is too much, but the Asus, especially the T90, with an 8.9″ display looks really usable and we noted that the weight is really low. In tablet mode, it’s just 7.2mm thick and in laptop mode, just 13.2mm. The Memo Pad 7 and and FonePad 7 were updated recently and were highlighted at the show.

A new product was the ZenFone Zoom which was mentioned at CES. The new model has a 3:1 optical zoom module – a 10 element lens that includes optical stabilisation and is reported to come from Hoya. This does increase the thickness of the phone to 12mm and the camera resolution is 13 megapixels. The second camera is 5 megapixels. There is a quad core Intel Atom Z3580 processor with 2GB or 4GB of memory and a 5.5″ FullHD display driven by a PowerVR G6430 GPU. Flash memory is up to 128GB. The Zenfone Zoom will ship in Q2.

The Asus ZenWatch is not new, but it looks to me to be one of the more stylish of the smartwatches in the current generation.

TI showed the Asus P3B portable LED projector at CES (Innovative DLP Demos in the TI Suite). At MWC, we got some more details, but not many! The unit has 1280 x 800 resolution and 700 lumens (with a power supply – at CES we heard it was 300-400 lumens running from its battery) as well as supporting wireless projection. Connections include HDMI and MHL. We couldn’t get more details, but will continue to try to get more information on the device.

Information on the Asus P3B Projector is still sparse.
