The 15.6″ Vivobook 4K is Asus’s latest UltraHD laptop offering – joining a Zenbook of the same size – covering 100% sRGB and 72% NTSC. Built-in ‘Splendid’ technology is said to allow the adjustment of colour temperature, while also offering four user modes: ‘Vivid’ (optimised contrast), ‘Eye Care’ (low blue light), ‘Normal’ and ‘Manual’ (user-adjustable).
Asus says that the lithium-polymer battery in the Vivobook will last for up to two-and-a-half times as long as a lithium-ion battery – in terms of charge cycles, rather than day-to-day use. The battery will only begin to degrade after 300 charging cycles, and will retain more than 70% of its power after 700 cycles.
In addition, the Vivobook’s battery features short circuit protection; transparent conductive oxides, which Asus claims protects against overheating; charge protection, which cuts off electric current when fully charged; and temperature protection.
The Vivobook 4K uses an IPS panel with a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 178² viewing angles. Windows 10 runs on an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, with 4GB (expandable to 12GB) of RAM. The GPU is an Nvidia Geforce 940M, with 2GB of VRAM. Storage is up to 1TB (HDD), although we have seen reports of 2TB (HDD) and SSD versions. HDMI, VGA, USB 3.0 (x2), USB 2.0 and RJ45 ports are featured.
Asus has not shared price or release details yet.
