What They Say
Asus has debuted a new 32:9 14″ (1920 x 550) IPS LCD touch and pen display at the NAB show. The ProArt PA147CDV (does CDV stand for ‘cut down version’? – ed) has an integrated ‘Asus Dial’ control. Although relatively low resolution, the monitor is Calman Verified and factory pre-calibrated to Delta E<2. The display features 10-bit color, 100% sRGB and 100% Rec.709 colour gamut. Other details are not yet available but we know there is a USB-C on each side and an HDMI input.
The monitor will be available in Q2 2022 in North America.
What We Think
There’s a lot that’s not clear from the information we got, so we’ll keep digging around. For example, does it have a battery (the base is quite thick) or get power from the notebook? This kind of jog dial can be really handy especially for applications like video or audio editing with timelines or other non-keyboard-centric tasks. At one time I used one for video, but sadly it dropped out of being supported in Windows.
The monitor no doubt was based on a similar use concept to the Zenbook Pro Duo 15 OLED that we saw at BETT recently, (BETT 2022: Part II – the Display Details) that puts a display between the keyboard and the main display. I would miss the palm support of a regular notebook. (BR)
