ARKit Gets New Features and Capabilities in iOS 11.3

Apple released iOS 11.3 earlier this week, bringing with it a raft of performance tweaks and bug fixes. Upgrades of note include improvements to ARKit’s capabilities. Apps can now deliver AR experiences that use vertical surfaces in addition to horizontal ones and more accurately map to irregularly-shaped surfaces. ARKit’s camera view has also had its resolution boosted by 50% and now supports auto-focus.

Other improvements include four new Animojis, the removal of ads from Apple Music video streams and a beta version of the new Battery Health feature, which will give users the ability to switch off the much-maligned, performance-reducing battery saver mode that came to light earlier this year.
