Archos Releases Low-cost Gear VR Competitor

French company Archos is to release a low-cost competitor to Samsung’s Gear VR (and, we guess, Google Cardboard), with the Archos VR Glasses. Like the Samsung and Google offerings, Archos’ ‘headset’ is more like a frame that a smartphone can be strapped in to. Unlike the others, though, it is device-agnostic, accepting any phone (up to 6″) and either Android, iOS or Windows Phone operating systems. Archos VR is compatible with ‘all’ VR apps and will support a stereoscopic 3D mode following an Archos Video Player update. The glasses will cost $30 when they go on sale in November.
